Each summer, Local First Utah, along with independent business alliances across the country celebrates Independents Week during the week of July 1 – 7th, at the same time the United States is celebrating Independents Day.
This is no coincidence, as we believe that buying from locally owned independent businesses is crucial to keeping the American Dream alive.
Independent businesses provide economic stability to local communities. A vibrant and diverse local economy, populated by local retailers, restaurants, service providers, manufacturers, creative professionals, contractors, landscapers, plumber, web developers, real estate agents – really you name it – creates jobs of all wage and skill levels, provide tax revenues to our cities, and creates economic stability.
There is strength in diversity, and a diverse local economy is no different. A local economy that is not tied to one or two large employers or industries is better equipped to navigate the fluctuating global economy.
As well, business ownership and entrepreneurship are important pathways for New Americans to share in all the America has to offer.
That’s why, during Independents Week, we encourage you to celebrate your freedom, and to keep the American dream alive by buying from a wide array of independent businesses in your hometown.
