Becoming a Partner

Partner Requirements

Your business must operate independently.
At least 51% of business ownership must be held by Utah residents.

What Constitutes a Local Business?

The business is privately held (not publicly traded).
Business owners total greater than 50% of business ownership and live in the local region.
The business is registered in Utah with no corporate or national headquarters outside the region.
The business can make independent decisions regarding the name and look of the business as well as purchasing, practices and distribution.
The business pays all of its own rent, marketing expenses and other expenses without assistance from a corporate headquarters.

In an effort to support other Local First partners, local business owners should try to source goods and supplies as much as possible from other locally owned businesses.

Q: How do I list my business in the online directory?

A: Registration with Local First Utah is the first step. To register with Local First Utah, click on the “Register” link on the homepage of our website. Please fill out the required fields of the registration form. On this form, you will create your username for logging in to the Local First website. You will need your username and password in order to maintain and update your business listing. (Please note: registering and creating a username does not automatically add your business to our online directory.)

The second step is to create your directory listing. To list your business in our online directory, login using the username and password you created when you completed the registration form. Once you have logged in to the site, click the link that says create a business listing. Please fill out the required fields of that form, keeping in mind that the information you submit will be the information that the public views in our directory. When your listing has been submitted, Local First staff will review and approve your listing within three weeks.

Q: How can I use the Buy Local First logo?

A: Using the files available here, we invite your business to use the Buy Local First logo in a variety of ways! We encourage our partner businesses to use our logo on their websites, menus, receipts, newsletter, and advertisements. We are proud of our partner businesses, and we hope our partners are proud to be a part of Local First Utah.

Q: What are the benefits of joining Local First Utah?

A: When your business joins Local First Utah, you communicate to your customers that you are proud to be a local, independent business, which contributes to our local economies. There are more than 4,000 Local First partner businesses throughout the state of Utah. Joining with these other businesses strengthens the overall impact that locally owned businesses have on our neighborhoods, our cities and our state.
