Partner Requirements

Your business must operate independently.
At least 51% of business ownership must be held by Utah residents.

What Constitutes a Local Business?

The business is privately held (not publicly traded).
Business owners total greater than 50% of business ownership and live in the local region.
The business is registered in Utah with no corporate or national headquarters outside the region.
The business can make independent decisions regarding the name and look of the business as well as purchasing, practices and distribution.
The business pays all of its own rent, marketing expenses and other expenses without assistance from a corporate headquarters.

In an effort to support other Local First partners, local business owners should try to source goods and supplies as much as possible from other locally owned businesses.

Getting actively involved with Local First Utah...

Proudly Display Your Window Cling

Building a brand for locally owned, independent businesses is crucial to our, and in essence your, success. The corner stone of our branding effort is the window cling. Place it in a prominent window or door, reminding your customers that they are buying local first.

Use the Local First Logo EVERYWHERE!

Branding your business as "Local First" is important to your business, the Local First campaign, and to your customers. Please include the logo on your marketing materials, such as store front awnings and banners, product labels, customer receipts, print advertising, event displays and website. You can download the Local First logo from our website. Stay Informed

With more than 2,700 partners, it can be a challenge to communicate each partner individually. Please make sure that we have your current email address so that you can receive our email newsletters and announcements regarding special promotions, events, and volunteer opportunities. If you are not receiving regular emails, please let us know, and we can add your email to the recipients list. Also, check the website frequently for updates!

Participate in Promotions

Local First works on promotions to drive customers to locally owned businesses throughout the year. Make sure you are aware of when these events are happening and how you can be participating, including our two major promotions each year: Independents Week, the last week of June through to July 4th, and Buy Local First Week, the last week of November.

Recruit Other Businesses

Surely you know some other locally owned businesse that could benefit from participating in Local First. The more partners we have, the greater strength there is in supporting Utah's economy and your community.

Train Your Staff

Please make sure your employees are aware that you are a member of Local First Utah, know the details of current store promotions, and know the basic message of Local First Utah. They are on the front lines, and are incredibly important in getting the message out!
